As a writer, my method of preparing pieces regardless of length is to start by interviewing each client. In part, this is to determine your needs and also to ascertain whether we are a good fit for each other. In general, our initial conversation will take between 30 minutes and one hour.
Once we have decided to work together, the following will take place:
- Determination of initial project scope and timeline preparation including project updates and initial deadlines;
- Discussion of audience for each written piece and markets;
- Discussion of complexity of the ideas each client desires to see represented in written form;
- I may ask you to chart or sketch your ideas, or to provide graphic/photographic representation of your ideas to assist in preparing appropriate text for your idea or project.
My greatest skill as a writer is the ability to listen and ask questions – and assimilate complex and difficult ideas into easily understood written work for a variety of readers.
