As a writer and professor, I work to find understanding — and beauty — in the world. This is of course, not always an easy task as so much complexity confronts us today. It’s quite possible to find a pathway that leads us to greater understanding by learning to see what is beyond the obvious. My approach to creative, academic and professional work is this: if we want to understand –and express — complexity, we must first build a firm, scaffolded research process that allows in maximum light for discovery.
All work I produce — from research to outlining, drafting and editing in preparation of written, video or audio materials are completely and totally created by me. I use no generative AI in any level of my work due to a myriad of concerns including ethical, environmental, bias and rampant inaccuracies. And I believe in the em dash — one of the strongest punctuation marks ever created, by humans (typesetters). The em dash brings a phrase to life with emphasis, and asks a reader to both pause and consider, the text before them — a request that only a human can accurately pose.
